Want to support our ambassadors of nature?
The Adopt-an-Animal program provides a wonderful opportunity to inspire a child’s love of nature—and it supports the educational mission of the Champaign County Forest Preserve. At the Homer Lake Interpretive Center, our captive wild animals give visitors a rare opportunity to experience native animals up close. During our educational programs, children love to get face to face with these ambassadors of nature.
Unfortunately, our reptiles cannot be re-released into the wild. But they do support us in our role as stewards of our natural heritage, teaching a greater appreciation and understanding of wild animals and their dwindling natural habitats.
Groups and individuals can adopt any of our animals for one month, six months, or one year.
When you adopt one of our captive wild animals, your donation provides necessary support for these special creatures. You would not take your animal home—all animals must remain under our care.
You will receive:
To adopt one of our animals, or for more information, call (217) 896-2455 or email enved@ccfpd.org.
Why not give a green gift that inspires stewardship of the natural world?
Adopt-an-Animal sponsorships make great holiday gifts, birthday gifts, or recognition gifts for children, teachers, family, and friends. Sponsorship is a rewarding experience for classrooms, scout, and youth groups. Recipients of a sponsorship will enjoy the “adoption” even more throughout the year with regular visits to our Interpretive Center.
